Meet Marilyn
Twenty-nine years ago, my husband Phil and I were searching for a community in which to
raise our family. Like many of you, we looked for good schools, safe neighborhoods, easy
commuting, value for our housing dollar, caring neighbors, shopping convenience and a vibrant
downtown. We bought a house, but fell in love with a community. Today we value our decision
to move to Downers Grove for these same reasons.
We raised our two children in Downers Grove. We were active in their schools and I served as
President of the Highland School PTA. We coached T-Ball and Soccer at the YMCA, did little
league baseball and spent a good part of my adult life driving to swim practices and attending
swim meets. Our daughter Carrie was a three-sport athlete at North High School and our son was
a state champion in swimming at Marmion Academy.
While juggling practices and car pools, I became involved in village government. I was a member
of the planning and zoning commissions learning about zoning, land uses and development practices.
When I was appointed to the council in 1988, I took those lessons with me and hopefully they
made me a more informed public servant. During my tenure on the council, I have listened and
learned from my colleagues, staff and you the residents. I have done my homework, visited
problem area, listened to your concerns and have strived to make decisions based on what is
good for the community as a whole. Working together, we have made Downers Grove a community
we can be proud of.
With our children grown and involved in their own lives, I want to continue to work with
our residents to make Downers Grove an even better community. Advocating for our residents
has been an integral part of my life, and I thank you for the opportunity and support you
have given me. With your vote on April 7th, I will continue to work with you to make
Downers Grove a town that we are proud to call home.
